February 23, 2020 - Cult Wines (Jason's House): This was the consensus WOTN...but how can you go wrong with an aged Bordeaux from such a prestigious chateau? This was my first Angelus, and I was pleasantly surprised. Although I had high expectations, the wine was coming from a less heralded vintage, so my expectations were somewhat tempered. This wine did not disappoint!

The perfumed nose was something I could enjoy all night, and even commented that I understand why the nose on a wine contributes to the overall score. The perfume from the Cab Franc was sweet, intoxicating and was a perfect reminder Springtime, with Lavender, wild-flowers, red fruit and forest coming to mind while enjoying the aromas. On the palate, the wine was balanced and the tannins smooth as silk, there was a nice compliment of fruit (red current and cassis) to complete tertiary flavors of leather, lead and wood. The finish was medium (a longer one would have lifted this wine to perfection - or nearer to perfection!) with notes of stewed plum, prunes and a hint of sweet oak. A pleasure to drink...thank you Kevin!

February 22, 2020 - "Cult Wines" (Jason's House): This was a pop and pour. On the nose, I got iodine, red fruit, plum, a tiny bit of funk, flowers, cassis, some leather and cigar box. The nose is just gangbusters. The palate started out hollow and austere. It managed to open up over an hour of glass time, but it never matched the nose.

This was the consensus red wine of the night, and a real treat.

As this was a "Cult wine" theme, we had discussion about what that meant. For this wine, we felt that it somewhat qualified due to James Bond et al having elevated this property to quasi-cult status. We also were all grateful to get to drink this, even if it didn't have cult status.

February 20, 2020 - "Cult Wines" & a Few Others (Jason P's, St. Paul, MN): Very dark red color. Was open for an hour before serving; drank a glass plus over 3 hours. Wow, just another great bottle of this wine. Gret nose, very earthy, forest floor, leather, cassis, blueberry, violet, sultry, damp earth. The palate has leather, cassis, blue fruit, leather, lithe and integrated, gravelly minerality, saddle, and a 45 second finish. Outstanding - my and group WOTN. 96+pts and maybe better.

February 7, 2020 - This wine is drinking amazingly well. Notes of truffles, herbs and dried blackberry on the nose. Tannins are fully integrated and there is still a nice concentration of fruit on the palate with plenty of supporting acidity. Finish is very smooth and long. Delicious!

December 25, 2019 - Pretty much the same 2 years on. This time I decanted it, though. Deep black currants with iron and earthiness. Soft tannins and acidity made it go perfectly with filet mignon done sous vide and seared. Has 10-20 years left in it probably.
