August 18, 2023 - Peppery start, very focused. Was double decanted an hour before tasting. Soften somewhat as the dinner progressed, still very alive
Just finished the wine left over from last night at lunch. Just as good, amazing 43 years old.

November 23, 2022 - Cured meat, olives, soil and dark fruit. Medium body palate. Drinking beautifully at peak. So classic.

January 17, 2022 - La Tache and Chevalier Montrachet with Brad (Roger Nellans home): Lovely wine. Complex aromas of smoked meat, earth, spice. Medium body. Soft resolved tannins. Long finish.

September 10, 2020 - At age forty, the 1980 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne is showing beautifully, offering up complex aromas of plums, smoked meats, black truffle, loamy soil and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, muscular and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with lively acids, mostly resolved tannins, and a long, penetrating finish.

September 5, 2018 - Rhone Admissions (Vaucluse): Again here I struggled with whether or not to put down flawed. This is not the best bottle of this, but it was completely drinkable. We had the wine earlier in the year and in comparison this bottle was off. That being said, this ended the night in a fairly nice spot. It started with a not quite right (which was a view not shared by the whole table, but very much by me). Some TCA. And like there was a veil over the whole wine so it just wasn't giving up as much as it should. Had been opened and decanted for maybe an hour or so before pouring. Needed more time. Was drinking best on the last sip. By the end of the night it was animal and blackberry and the structure that that new oak aging with a lot of age provides. In other words, quite nice. But still slightly lacking in vibrancy. A wine that beats everything else I drank this week with the exception of the other wines on the table this night.

February 18, 2018 - Tampa Spring Break III; 2/16/2018-2/18/2018 (Tampa FL): From the wine list at Bern's. My second LaLa (of the day). At 38, this is still a very youthful and powerful wine. Dark fruits with some sappy, juicy quality still showing through along with spices, and pepper and a bit of smoked meat, but ultimately this leans a bit more sweet than savory. Really delicious.

February 18, 2018 - Tampa Spring Break (the third); 2/16/2018-2/18/2018 (Various Tampa locations (Seasons 52, Capital Grille, Berns etc.)): Yum! Lovely and bright and powerful. So young and yet also kindof pretty and floral and black fruits. I was very happy with this one. Drinking great.

October 15, 2017 - At Balon Restaurant in Hong Kong - Well I tried it again, this time against the 1980 La Mouline and on this occasion it was a little flat. I don't think it was a faulty bottle but it didn't have the brightness of fruit that the Mouline had in abundance. Perhaps it is getting tired and the tannins are slowly taking over. I hope not.
