November 27, 2021 - Consistent with other notes. Needs a two hour decant before drinking. Very enjoyable!

November 13, 2021 - Muted, flavours and texture are there but fails to open up and impress. Will wait 5 years for next one.

November 13, 2021 - This was little young, need a few more years for my licking. However it was a great balance of fruit and tannins once it opened up. It needed a few hours of decanting or aeration to truly enjoy the blend. Overall excellent wine.

November 7, 2021 - Enjoyed over three days.

First impressions: decant and wait an hour.

As an overlooked vintage, this is still a very solid bottle to open and enjoy. After a 2-3 decant you will have a beautiful wine to enjoy with beef, lamb or a savory lentil soup.

Dense, chewy with still a bit of bracing acid, it can last another 5-7 years so there is no hurry. I may re visit more recent vintages as I love the flavors.

October 25, 2021 - From 75cl, obscenely heavy bottle (817g, to be exact—so much for the supposed ecological credentials of "biodynamic" winemaking, perhaps it's more a case of subscribing to the Rudolf Steiner cult rather than a serious attempt to do the right thing by the planet? I can't remember the 2002 or 2003 bottles being this heavy, and shudder at the amount of CO2 wasted transporting 2004 and subsequent vintages of Pontet-Canet across the globe...), perfect cork, decanted 1 hour, should have been 3. Dark, dense colour. Some blackcurrant on the scent, plus new French oak, but not much more that spells Pauillac in my language. Raw- open-textured entry, tastes more alcoholic than declared; uni-Cabernet mid-palate, could be from anywhere, but pleasant enough. Immature finish with some tannic daggy bits hanging from the fronds of sheep wool. This wine is to Lynch Bages or Clerc Milon as Remiriez de Ganuza is to Ygay: modern, brutally upfront and raw-textured. If you'd prefer to drink Napa, but can no longer afford the price of Cakebread, then this might just be your wine. Perhaps better in 5 years? Or: serve as a trophy wine to people who are impressed by raw power? 89P(?)

(Château Pontet-Canet, Pauillac) Overdelivering for its rank and vintage, this is a stunning wine that rivals the more highly rated 2005. It will easily keep for a decade or more, but is enormously enjoyable now, with richly concentrated cassis and cedar flavors and a supple, integrated structure. Hot Picks
