November 17, 2018 - Almost a metallic finish. Decanted for 3 hours. Still a good amount of fruit present.
April 27, 2016 - Funky, old world vibe. Surprising from Virginia. Current, red cherry and taut acidity. Amazing after 8 years old. Tannins still persistent, this can go for several more years. Perfect with Delmonico steak.
February 4, 2015 - Beautiful wine. I was handsomely rewarded for cellaring this one. Very smooth, delicious. Dark fruit and vanilla.
September 29, 2014 - Dark fruit and some spice on the finish. Mild tannins. Has improved over past year. Way smoother
October 20, 2013 - Nice, balanced blend. Dark fruit, plum, and a little spice. Medium tannins. Definitely improved with some age
March 11, 2013 - Not bad, Virginia!
June 23, 2012 - Small taste, decent wine, not as overblown as a lot of the others, some structure, but not a good qpr.
June 23, 2012 - Virginia's Finest...? (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): Okay, now we're dealing with a legit Virginia red wine. It smells like dessert: cherry pie, cheesecake topping and black cherries. Lovely nose. The palate shows grippy tannins, sweet cassis, and a distinct note of iron and rare meat. It's very Napa-esque, but even a bit sweeter. This wine had the most petit verdot in it, which could contribute to that extra weight and grip that a lot of the other reds were laciking. It's a good wine, but when I heard it was $70+, I thought... no friggin' way.
June 14, 2012 - Nice earthy, fruity nose. On the palate, Initial spice and tobacco with dark fruit at the end. Medium tannins with smooth mouth feel. Really lingers on the tongue. If enjoying with food, don't miss this! Softened some in bottle over past year.
October 22, 2011 - Very nice with steaks on the grill. Decanted for about 2 hours- opened up nicely. Fruity, pleasant nose. Initially tated peppery, toasted almond midway, then fruit explosion that nicely stayed on my tongue. Medium tannins. Last bottle we opened about a year ago. This wine definitely improved with a year in the cellar
