April 14, 2024 - full-bodied cabernet, still has more time.

April 7, 2024 - From 75cl, perfect cork, decanted 90 minutes, improved until final drop. Putting the "currant" back into the word "blackcurrant", this very serious wine from a much maligned "poor" year shows immense aromatic complexity. Dessicated mulberry meets intense fresh blackcurrant; huge concentration of dark spice. Star anise, five-spice. Bright healthy acidity; virile tannic grip. Perhaps not a "Great Wine" but a great bottle of St. Julien approaching peak maturity. 92P

March 3, 2024 - Still quite young and fresh from a magnum. Opaque garnet, still purple to the edge. Initially refined tannins coat the mouth, then the complexity of smoke and saddle leather with a tart mouthwatering finish of licorice and earthy notes. Balanced and big, the magnums have another decade to mature. Decant for two hours minimum.

February 19, 2024 - Wonderfully evolved now and testament to ageing these wines. Still four years ago, this was pretty massive and tough (at least in my book), whereas now, the wine is fully open for business, nice remainders of fruit and lots of cloves, dark berries and leather. Tannins now melted but still full of structure. 22 years, minor vintage, great chateau, a winning formula. A good buy for some 10 years more i guess and probably a superb PQR.

February 11, 2024 - This was my Super Bowl wine. The game (Chiefs win!) was better than the wine. The wine had faded. Good acidity and well balanced, with muted notes of blackberry and black licorice. Overall, I wish I’d tried this bottle five years ago. I love the winery and feel bad not loving this wine.

(Leoville-Poyferre) This was excellent with soaring aromas of mint, leather, cassis and tar. Crunchy and ripe in the mouth with nice richness but not much complexity. Alot of material in the wine and will take many years to come around.

(Château Léoville Poyferré) Lavender, lovely nose; tasty, elegant, cassis, berry palate with soft velvety tannins; medium finish
