Community Tasting Notes 5

February 21, 2023 - Medium nose intensity with notes of spices, tea, earth. No more fruits left. Medium acidity. Still drinkable. Price to quality not worth it but its more meant for birthday vintage.

December 22, 2021 - Deep tawny in colour. Medium nose with medicinal, black tea, banana. Medium acidity and tannin. Ullage was low fill at mid low shoulder. Still drinkable.

January 19, 2019 - Still a good wine from a terrible vintage. Very dark ruby colour, fragrant bouquet on opening. A delicate taste that faded by the second glass. Not bad considering it had travelled to Jamaica where I purchased it in 1978 and brought it back to Toronto. The cork came out intact, unlike other premiers crus I have opened from the Sixties.

January 16, 2016 - Dinner in Orlando (Robert's House): Thanks to Bobby for opening this towards the end of the night without much hope of showing well. Surprise, surprise! While not a showstopper, I thought this was quite lovely. Nice tea and balsamic tones married nicely with subtle red fruit & dried rose tones. Decent acidity. It did have some nuttiness to it, too.

October 12, 2008 - The American Artists with Baroness Philippine de Rothschild (Del Posto): "A terrible year, a disaster all year round," says Xavier. Hopes that this might turn into a pleasant surprise like the '74 are quickly dashed. Smells liike a cobwebbed attic; has some up-front sweetness and hasn't broken up, but there's no pleasure to be found here. I guess it's a testament to the quality of Mouton's raw materials that a wine from so atrocious a vintage would still be alive, but that's about all you can say for it.
