June 25, 2021 - Opened an hour in advance...had to dig out the final piece of the cork...light red in color...past its prime, but enjoyable for what it is...light red fruit with some earthiness comparable to a light Bordeaux.

October 10, 2020 - Deep purple-red color with a ring of peripheral red-orange. Cigar box/lead pencil and blueberry aromas with no off-putting odors. Nose is as crisp and clean as a high altitude Fall day. Still present blue fruit flavor within the medium bodied mouthfeel with a proper acidity balancing the persistent tannins. These impressions are first blush with a promise of more complexity with grilled beef tips, peppers and a Rombauer 2018 Chardonnay. Mount Veeder is truly a special appellation and winery.

July 16, 2017 - Drank from a 3 liter that was open for several hours. Initially some heat and sharp tannin that blew off after an hour. Plenty of life left. Palate is dominated by secondary notes of prunes, syrup, eucalyptus, and aged leather. Some blackberry and dark cherry remain but lean towards being baked or liqueured. Drink up.

November 3, 2016 - @ Homer st. with the pies....

Blackish, dark, brute of a wine
Cigar box, plums, blackberry pancake syrup, wet bark mulch, stewed fruit off the nose.

Tannin is still present, but soft and refined. The wine is Big, Bold, and tastes like the nose. Oak and vanilla also present.

I am surprised at how much life is left in this vintage after reviewing its recommended drinking window.

    Thanks Andrea

February 28, 2015 - 92-94: scored down slightly because I'm just not sure I believe how great this bottle was. Followed the 95 Palmer, this wine had a vibrant purple hue, and an intense nose that reminded me of Barossa. Big, powerful fruit with nice fruit tannin and a touch of oak remaining, and a very nice finish. Very impressive, although I should note judging from recent reviews that this wine has been cellar kept since release, and seemed to have several more years ahead. It doesn't appear that other bottles have fared so well.
