May 20, 2020 - Last year I had a 2010 Rousseau Beze, and it was likely the best bottle of Rousseau I've ever drunk. So I've been looking for the right time to open the 2010 Chambertin, and today was the day. Silky and pure, a great nose, and somewhat light on its feet. Stayed constant over the three hours we sipped it. Excellent, but not in the sublime camp of the 2010 Beze. Anything it was missing may develop, and I'd happily drink this over and over. But let's hope evolution improves excellence.

November 16, 2019 - The second Viking dinner (Undisclosed location then Morton's at Reston town center): Absolutely gorgeous nose, perfectly ripe blackberry, sugar glazed blackberry tart, rose, mocha, Vosne spice, musk, light caramel and crushed rocks. Perfectly balanced palate, layers upon layers of finely layered black fruit, silky, polished and beautifully detailed, perfect amount of acidity and strong presence of mineral, and a seamless long sweet black fruit driven finish with Asian spice at the end. There is a hint of very fine tannins. This shed the youthful opulence but remains perfectly balanced. Although perfectly enjoyable, another decade of cellaring is recommended.

March 3, 2019 - Translucent, nearly transparent ruby. Potent nose of opulent, vanilla/coconut oak; nutmeg; coffee bean; dried flowers; ripe, sweet cherries; and some vegetal, celery-like notes (stem inclusion?). Really dense, concentrated, and powerful on the palate—packs a wallop despite quite modest extraction. Vibrant acid, really well-disguised tannin, and outstanding length. Nonetheless, this is probably showing more future potential than outright deliciousness on the palate at this point. Would love to check back in 10-15 years, not that I’ll ever be able to afford this again.

January 20, 2019 - More closed than other recent bottles. Less expressive than expected.

July 20, 2018 - Lots of dark fruit, cherries, Vosne spices, freshness of rose and chamomile, coffee, a certain almost creaminess. Young for sure, but amazingly drinkable even today. Incredible precision, opulent nose and weightless on the palate. The perfect harmony of a dark fruit plate and spices of a Vosne, and so much more minerals that in time will sure develop the depth of an 100pt wine.
