January 22, 2020 - Wine was decanted for several hours for a blind tasting, but was still extremely closed, almost to the point of being bad. Then sampled over several days, and it finally began to open a bit, but never to the point of being great.

October 5, 2019 - This bottle was extraordinary. Decanted for 2 hours—but tasted it throughout—but this transformed into perhaps the best Brunello I have had. Easily trumped the 2004 Valdicava —which was beautiful but had not harmonized to the same level. I have not had great luck with older wines—15 years is typically my stopping point, but everyone told me Banfi Brunellos in particular age very well. I’ve not really enjoyed any of them as much as the 2010 until now. And now I believe the advice.

So I have the 2001, 04-06–07-08-09-10-11-12-13 and am going to age them all 15-20 years and hope I’m still around to drink them. Because if they can come together like this ‘97 I’m gonna be very very happy.

August 13, 2019 - Decanted 2hrs.. This wine continues to drink well although probably fully matured now. Dark garnet, full bodied with notes of candied cherries, cassis, game with well integrated tannins. Long satisfying finish.

June 8, 2019 - With lasagna from Pizza of Venice Altadena Ca. Took an hour to start to mellow and then became really nice & smooth. Still young if you wait- first taste after opening was tainted but that blew off after an hour.

October 27, 2018 - Still drinking beautifully. A bit less than the Fontallaro, but still lovely.

August 27, 2018 - In a great place. Incredible life left in this.

June 24, 2018 - Red fruits, leather, earthiness, mineral and intriguing notes of roasted herbs (or Chinese herbal tea), muted oak/vanilla. Very high quality acidity keeps the balance of flavours in check. Nice to drink now.

May 31, 2018 - This Brunello is in a great place. Medium ruby color. Subdued tannins, dusty, dried red cherry fruit, Chambord, tobacco leaf. Still vervacious and structured. Drink now.

December 17, 2017 - Lacking depth and complexity. Would never guess this is a 20 year old wine

October 14, 2017 - Lots of sediments, not decanted or filtered, disturbed the real taste of this wine at a celebration.
