October 12, 2019 - Pretty much the same as my earlier note. This just has so much going on. Like most wines of this style it usually takes center stage. We had a really amazing older CA pinot (Kalin 2000) that was so subtle and just lovely with the roast lamb. The Armada was also great with it -- just different. More of a strong bass note that almost takes you away from the food and makes you want to jump into the glass. The pinot is more subtle, and more balanced, and complemented the food nicely. Both were good -- just different experiences.

September 1, 2019 - Probably the darkest, most concentrated and tannic of Baron's single vineyard syrahs. Completely dark and opaque; very aromatic from the start, typical Cayuse style of roasted meats, charred wood, pure blackberries, some black pepper. Full-bodied flavors to match. Still noticeable tannins, which could resolve with more age. Very long, somewhat hot aftertaste. Still may be a bit closed and early, though very enjoyable. Definitely more power and less elegance than several other Cayuse syrahs. I'll hold back a few for another year or two.

August 25, 2019 - Opened by Mark. I've had the 2007 and 2008 in the past and this falls somewhere in between the 2 in quality. No formal notes. 92 points.

August 24, 2019 - 4th Saturday group "uptown" tasting (M&R's): Double blind. Fairly dark color with notes of dried herbs, spice, tar, pepper and black fruit. Red and black fruit on the palate, with peppery spice overtones. Nicely baalnced; medium tannin. Guessed syrah. 92-93 pts.

(Cayuse Vineyards Armada Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley) An aromatic wine with black olive juice, mineral, savory notes, and a light earthy funk. The palate is incredibly soft, more feminine in style than the other 2009 vintage offerings, with great minerality and exceptional length. Wound up tightly at present. Give one to two years or decant. 100% Syrah. 14.7% alcohol. 493 cases produced.
