April 7, 2021 - Well an Easter Monday gormandizing session with Fatsie, Grandpa Greg, Cliffy and Mick and Chris ( other Tigers boys). A bit of a hit and miss day as is standard from Fatsie. 5000+ bottles , some gems some in trouble and always a lottery with Fatsie's old wines.
Anyway a quick summary of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly ( that i could remember anyway)
GOOD
Wine of the day for me - this wine 2008 Andelmonde 97 pts
2016 Curtis Martins vineyard - 96 ( superb thx Chris)
2006 Diamond Valley Reserve Pinot - 95 ( and hosed the Martinborough)
1994 Metala Black label - 93
2000 Berrys Bridge Cabernet - 93
2001 La Tour Blanche Sauterne - superb 95
BAD
1994 Howard Park Cabernet Merlot - tired
2010 Martinborough Marie Zelie Reserve ( screwcap) - tired, flat, thin and lifeless and proves my long held theory that NZ pinots are over priced, over worked and do not age or last past 5 years
2009 Domaine A cabernet - not a good bottle
UGLY
2005 Noon Reserve Cabernet - 17% alcoholic hot monolithic undrinkable monster.
Anyway onto the Andelmonde. I ventured in Fatsie's cellar and found a stash of Standish wines and dragged one out. This was the first one i pulled out and said this will do, also keen to try it again since i had not liked it on release. As usual Dan Standish is the master. this single vineyard wine was astonishingly long , perfectly balanced, amazingly rich and youthful, very Rhoneish and if anything appeared to be shutting down for the long haul. But still hosed everything from the afternoon by a country mile. What do you say, its beyond words how good his wines are. I remember trying this wine with Dan at Cloudwine in South Melbourne way back when and I felt it had some Brett elements, and a little unbalanced, and didnt really like it. Dan was polite and nodded and listened to my dribbled opinion all the while thinking "this Victorian tosspot has no idea what he is talking about" ( he probably still thinks that ) . And of course he was right. I was wrong ( gee thats hard to write down) . Here it is 10+ years later and its stunning. If Brett was around anywhere early in the peace, the wine told it to F off long ago. A must have in the cellar if you can find it -

April 16, 2020 - Agree it could last a few mor years yet..
But its wonderful now, smooth and round, vanillas, light tannins. Fine balanced..
There some spiciness to this wine that, is the only indication of some longevity.
My last unfortunately... Magnum at that. -
