April 17, 2022 - The wine is the colour and viscosity of new motor oil and coats the glass. It has some degree of sediment. On the nose you experience aromas of raisons, puff pastry and butter tarts.
It's really a dessert and it lingers for several minutes on the palate. It is intensely rich, sweet but not overly cloying, more syrup than wine in texture. On the palate there is caramel, raisons, butterscotch, and a hint of licorice. Mouth-coating thickness and sweetness.

I had tasted this wine years ago at the winery in the Montepulciano Province of Siena, Italy and I remember it to my somewhat more awe inspiring. Perhaps my tastes have changed but it is still an incredible experience

November 2, 2019 - White Truffles & Nebbiolo (Chez Nanda): This is a singular wine. Never had anything like. So rich, dense and powerful with intense notes of raisin and spice. Could handle a sip.

November 2, 2019 - Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume IV (Chicago, IL): From half-bottle. This was a somewhat polarizing wine at the table -- some thought it too viscous and sweet, but for me, this was absolutely glorious. I think the simplest way to describe this is raisin juice. Imagine taking a bunch of raisins and pressing them until a little bit of very sugar goo came out. That's this. It's the colour and viscosity of motor oil, and it pretty much tastes like the essence of raisins.

November 10, 2018 - Not much I can add to psmith's note here, which nails it. It's a dessert more than a dessert wine, and even a couple of sips linger for several minutes (and make it impossible to taste anything else for a while after). Intensely rich, sweet, more syrup than wine in texture, yet never overly cloying thanks to the bright acidity that emerges on the back end.

November 10, 2018 - I've had a fair amount of this from various vintages over the years, and I don't think the vintage actually matters much. Neither does the grape. I think it's mostly my mood and whether or not I feel like a full-on palate assault. There's no appropriate context here other than dessert, and it'll almost certainly be far, far sweeter than anything you might consider pairing with it. Think 30-year balsamico versus the stuff you buy down the street. There's a lot of everything, and it is complete... rancio, fruit, acid, depth, power, intensity, weight, viscosity, wows, whatever. It works, and it's fairly singular in the wine world. A half-bottle goes a long way when a half-ounce is more than enough and, while I haven't quite seen God or any saints here, if served in situ it might actually provide some inducement to go to communion again.
