    June 14, 2019 - Lisa's farewell (Nilgiri’s): Decanted. Mid garnet with a little bricking.
Black fruits, leather, sweet cherry, touch of smoke. Mid-weighted, rounded and resolved palate. A mature wine, not overly complex, that’s drinking very well.

May 25, 2019 - Last tasted in September 2016. As before, the cork was perfect and and there was no ullage. Deep colour, opaque still colour and with some browning at the rim. Quite a restrained nose when first opened. Attractive immediately after decanting to remove the heavy sediment.
It continued to open gradually, showing good, sweet dark fruit - blackberries and damsons with tobacco, eucalyptus and spice. Very smooth with some soft damson skin tannins. Very long.
After 4h, the wine really began to show on nose and palate. The palate became more complex and cherries emerged as before - red, then black, then maraschino. Great structure and balance. Interestingly, my wife and I both got raspberries on the palate when savouring the last glass.
    Excellent with rare sirloin.
It is now probably at its tipping point but is still a truly great bottle with a youthfulness that belies the date on the label. Sadly, our last one.

May 10, 2019 - {cork, 14%} Level in the neck, cork looked fine. Bricking garnet colour. A touch dull. Nose was quite advanced, a bit on the volatile side, leathery too. There's a real sense of a wine on the turn. Palate confirmed this; it's all tertiary flavours, with acidity trembling on the edge of volatility, hinting at varnish, the flavours are leathery and compost-like and old. Little in the way of tannin, there are medium-bodied flavours, then a fairly short, not especially interesting finish. I think this particular vintage is into the pot-luck category now.

April 10, 2019 - At 21....this baby is still going strong. We loved it. I see no problem with anyone wanting to cellar it for another decade +. This particular bottle has been cellared since release. We were just curious where this was in it's evolution. Still tastes very fresh and fruity. Cork was in great shape. Decanted for sediment and drank over a three hour window. A tad of leather on the nose, and a slight bit of bricking. Great structure. Still some tannin (nicely present, but not obtrusive), good acidity, long finish. Medium-heavy bodied. Only negative may be the it is a bit simple. Excellent with a local Ribeye. In two words: A beauty.

December 20, 2018 - Still drinking well although definitely on backside of peak. Tannins fully resolved. Big nose and well balanced on palate. Medium finish.

(Penfolds Bin 389 Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon) This has a more restrained nose, with a hint of elegance. Plenty of chewy blackcurrant, other black fruits and black pepper on the palate, with big tannins and fine acidity. Big and powerful, but strikes a good balance despite this. Tannins come to the fore on the finish - this wine needs time to come good.
