April 3, 2019 - Showing great, lovely Barolo.. So similar to my tasting note over 11 years ago here. Heady cherry liqueur nose with licorice and spices, mocha, herbal underbrush notes. Taut yet loaded with fruit on the palate. Nice.

March 30, 2019 - Winebar [1 Rosé, 3 Whts, & 8 Reds] from 03/29/19 + 5 Shared Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Simon, I can't thank you ENOUGH for saving some of this FABULOUS wine for me! :)

From the SW exposed, 260 m elev, "mix of Tortonian, Helvetian, whitish-gray limestone, & yellow-gray sandstone soils" of the Fiasco Vyd, "one of the first grand crus to be made as single vyd Barolo."

N: Tar atop roses with notes of smoke; Intensity lurking?

P: LM body; NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by some astringent pucker which, without losing touch with the initial frt, slowly morphs into a very LONG finish with a refines swtness to the dusty tannins. Approachable now (particularly with food), this DESERVES through '23 (I'm guessing), then making its 25th & who knows HOW many more. 14.5% ABV; My EXC+/Exceptional-. 96 pts ea Vinous (Galloni) & WA, 95 ea Huon Hooke & WS (Suckling) + a #26/Top 100, 93 (+?) Tanzer, 17.5/20 El Mundo Vino, 17/20 Jancis Robinson (Harding), and 16.5/20 Vinum!

January 12, 2019 - A modern styled Barolo tasted alongside an 07 Giacosa...If this was blind I do not think I could have placed this as Barolo...Finished 2 days later, seemed more mellow and in balance...

October 13, 2018 - The nose was restrained at first, but once it began to open, there was no stopping the ‘01 Bric del Fiasc. Here I found a vibrant mix of mineral-drenched, sweet black cherries with brown spices and dried roses. On the palate, it was silky yet poised, with medium-bodied creamy textures contrasted by tart red berry fruits, caking minerality and a savory, herbal twang. The finish was medium-long as hints of fine tannin resonated on the senses, against a backdrop of lingering spiced cherry and mineral tones. This was easily one of the best 2001 Barolos that I’ve had the opportunity to taste; balanced, elegant, refined and structured all at the same time.

October 5, 2018 - Muted and still tannic but shows pedigree underneath. 17 years young. Needs more time to integrate but patience will reward the drinker. Dark current and plum fruit await the patient.
