October 6, 2019 - My reactions to Scavino are always complicated. These are often fabulous wines, great structure, pure, clear fruit, depth, tannin, mouthfeel. But you have to take them for what they are. If I judged them again classic Barolo criteria, I'd be more critical. But they are great to drink. I thought about selling them off as my tastes changed toward the traditional, but I'm glad I didn't. Digging into them has given me a chance to appreciate them for what they are.

August 12, 2019 - Opened 3 bottles at 10 am and let them slow ox until 4:00 then decanted. Back into the bottles for a 7:00 dinner. The color is still very dark and the nose was just screraming of cherries. As it sat in the glass it just go better and better. Really typical barolo. Tar roses earth and more cherries. It was the wine of the night. We also had Cos '09, which just shut down in the glass and in about 10 years will be incredible. Also opened a double mag of Il Marroneto Madonna delle Grazie '05. This was extremly good but probably needs another few years to really shine.

August 4, 2019 - Lovely nose with flavors of rose petal, cherries, blood orange, and white pepper. Good acidity and big, but integrated tannins. Dark cherries and violet on the palate. Good finish. Quite consistent with notes from 2 years ago.

August 2, 2019 - Rose petal, wet earth. Beautiful. Still a nice tannic grip. I would drink up now - and mine has been kept in stellar conditions.

June 27, 2019 - At first look some bricking around the edges but the color seemed to deepen with air. A nice mouthful of sous bois, leather, fresh blue fruit, anise and a bit of tannin left in the finish. Drink now but still has some life.
