February 21, 2024 - Tonight the 61 Gruaud Larose showed marvellously well with red fruit, nutmeg, leather and perfume. On the palate, it was elegant and fresh with good core sweetness. The fruit was quite dense and muscular.

December 29, 2023 - Soft and savory like a leather couch that you just had magnificent sex on. That is on the nose. And then smooth and supple on the palate. Incredibly elegant.

September 25, 2023 - A good, but not great bottle of this often sublime tasting experience was a bit more on the secondary side, with its focus on all of its leafy, spice, and herbal character, with glimpses of red berries. Concentrated, chewy, and earthy, with a lean to the cigar wrapper side on the palate, I have had better, more interesting bottles. Drink from 2023-2031.

July 23, 2023 - This is another full-throttle example of the 1961 Gruaud Larose, full, rich, and ripe with decadent blueberry and blackberry compote, pipe tobacco, coffee, and loamy wet earth dominating the nose. Whereas the fruit on the nose walks the line with over-ripeness, it's dazzlingly fresh and defined on the palate where it's joined by a potpourri note that juxtaposes elegance with power. There's still velvety tannin here and a cool, earthy, subtly minty finish actually lingers quite long after the last drop is drunk.

June 8, 2023 - The ‘61 Gruaud Larose is really a wine from another era. This is a broad-shouldered, serious wine that gives plenty of interest but demands attention - there’s no big, effusive nose here, but rather a focused profile of crunchy, muscular fruit, leaning toward the blueberry and cassis end of the spectrum alongside coffee, alongside leather and loamy earthen notes. The tannins have resolved but they’re not exactly soft - this still carries some weight. This took some time (20-30 min) to build and then dropped off rather abruptly, but at its apogee it was quite impressive.
