September 24, 2019 - Eclectic Older Wines from the Rare Wine Company with Mannie Berk (The Morris, San Francisco): Ruby with slight fading. Super ripe cherry nose. Sappy, late earth. No lack of stuffing here. More obviously alcoholic and overripe than the Foillard 3.14 I had the other night. I much preferred that wine.

April 5, 2019 - Deeper color than the regular cuvée. Spicy red fruit on the nose and palate. This is much more toned down and elegant than the last time I had it, but it still possesses quite a tannic punch and fine acidity for the year. Quite a Beaujolais cru.

November 23, 2018 - On release this was blatantly jammy and over-the-top, could have been labeled I Can't Believe It's Not California. Still showing plenty of that with dark fruit and a raisined sur-maturite that fortunately mellows out with a few hours' decanting. Much better than it used to be, but not (yet?) at a point where you could say, "see, just needed time!"

August 18, 2018 - My first go at this wine and imo this is really not a classic Beaujolais experience, but is certainly an impressive wine. The concentration and dark fruit depth are quite amazing for the region but not overly done in the sense of big wines in general. No way I’d pick this out blind though, I’d probably guess medium weight Syrah or something? This will go another 10-15 years easy as it didn’t show much development but was certainly approachable now. This bottle was clean which relieved my anxiety a bit about my other bottles.

January 7, 2017 - Yikes, am I happy I opened this before bringing it to dinner tonight. After a hint of brett on the nose, fairly deep cherry fruit, and then, BAM, the most vile, mousey/moldy finish that took 30 minutes to get out of my mouth after one small sip despite copious irrigation and multiple rounds of mouthwash. Friends don't bring friends bottles that taste like this (at least not on purpose). On occasion, Lapierre can certainly bring the funk with the worst of them. I look forward to the next bottle with more than a little trepidation.

(Marcel Lapierre Morgon Cuvée Marcel Lapierre) Group's #6 (my #5) – 57 pts.; 1, 1, 2, 4 - medium dark magenta color; oak, ripe and roasted plum, menthol, raspberry nose; oak, ripe plum, black raspberry, berry palate with juice and depth, but very un-Bojo-like, reminiscent more of an Italian Merlot; long finish 90+ pts.
