April 11, 2020 - This is in a good place - nicely balanced flavors and structure. A ripe, powerful variation on the Syrah theme - a bit too much for pairing with boneless leg of lamb. A couple of nights ago I had the 2017 version of this wine which was made in a more refined and elegant style - and to my palate is even better. Fun to see what Big Basin has done with this vineyard over time.

June 2, 2017 - Deep purple in the glass, likely drinking at at its peak, well integrated, elegant, big bold fruits, blackberry, black plums, hint of smoke and baking spice, earth and wood. Delicious.

October 2, 2016 - Has a dark fruit compote nose with coffee and motor oil, but the palate has faded a bit with a familiar if simplified savory/smoky/bbq theme. No longer a great cocktail wine, glad I drank this now and not later.

December 1, 2015 - Glad I held this one for a while. Black olives, roasted meats, pepper, smoke and ripe fruits. Amazing balance and long finish. This is top 20 for 2015.

November 1, 2015 - This wine is open for business. Lots and lots of blackberry flavors which linger for a long time. Felt the acidity in my cheeks a bit, like eating a blackberry smartie. Hints of black pepper. Nice....
