Community Tasting Notes 3

November 12, 2012 - Unscrewed and poured. Fragrant and floral peach aroma. Complex, tingly flavors of lemon, green apple, and minerals with some petrol and an undercurrent of sweetness. Complex finish replete with umami. I don't know if it's the terroir, the winemaking, or some combination thereof, but Pfeffingen really makes something special from what is usually a rather pedestrian varietal.

February 3, 2012 - Ripe, sweet smelling white peach and nectarine notes introduce the nose of this wine, with faint hints of melon, gardenia, and apricot showing in the background, all on top of a pumice and sea stone minerality.

The minerality and ripe fruit that show so clearly on the nose appear just as strongly on the palate. Luminous tones of white nectarine, golden apple, and crisp, spritzy notes of crushed sea stone unfold at first. Notes of Mandarin orange, kumquat, and gardenia then give another layer of complexity and last into the finish. This is an impressively multi-dimensional wine with great depth and freshness.

September 27, 2010 - Very smooth (just a hint of sugar here: it balances a slightly bitter aromatic aftertaste), tastes fruity (some citrus, some litchi) and mineral.
Its acidic freshness is not enough to balance its smoothness: serve it cool (10° C).
