February 27, 2024 - Medium ruby with garnet rim. Light fresh strawberry and a touch of damp black earth on the nose. Medium plus acidity and body. Pleasant black fruit emerges with time in the glass. Lovely, persistent finish. This is a very good Bordeaux that represents incredible value. St. Julien always carries a graceful elegance into old age. A surprising freshness makes for a great old wine experience. If you have some, now's the time to try one.

January 1, 2024 - Glorious St J nose, blackcurrant led, some cherry, spice and a touch of gravel. Still youthful, the fruit adds a nice sense of creaminess and noticeably for an '04 a real sense of a plush midpalate. Long satisfying finish. I've always liked this wine but this has continued to improve and defies the critics lowly ratings. A decent 4* effort.

June 25, 2022 - Full-figured and flattering, the 04 Talbot shows a plummy, cedar pencil, loamy nose, accented by a drop of brettanomyces. Fleshy with soft tannins, this is drinking well now.

April 18, 2022 - After a slightly disappointing last bottle, I gave this a long double decant which I think was worth it.
It's not a knock your socks off kind of wine but the balance is great, pure blackcurrant fruit, soft tannin, tobacco and leather, with a heady perfume. I love 04 Bordeaux, a shame this would now be so expensive. No hurry to drink.

January 28, 2022 - This may be past its prime tasting but it is still a wonderful wine. Deep purple color and medium legs. Some sediment in the bottle. Wow, it smells strong, right off like black currant and cedar, exciting! It tastes like black cherry, raisin, dust, cedar, with hints of black pepper and oregano. The body is light/medium. The wine has a smooth texture with medium acidity and a medium finish. After a couple of hours, a surprise of raspberry sweetness came through - magical. Definitely decant for 2 hours. Went great with burgers!
