April 3, 2020 - Better than the last bottle, hardly any perceptable fruit, iron, blood, black olives. Full, similar to my other, not as rough and herbal. Moderate tannin and fruit acidity, this is pretty close to being done in my opinion. Very amaro

February 6, 2020 - Getting a little weedy and funky- but not in a good way. A lot of fruit has fallen off in this bottle, tons of black olive and lamb's fat, with bitter herbs. Got better with some air, but in no way was really drinkable.

June 14, 2019 - Initially a little rough but opens up nicely, this is slightly overextracted but holds itself together well. A complex heady nose with aromas of violets, lavender, olive tampenade, boysenberry compote, and slate. The palate is quite chewy with leafy wild berry fruit, still edgy tannins, and funky acidity. I think this is from an era when Copain was quite modern but you could still see the French influence.

May 6, 2018 - Copain Syrah Tasting (My Place - Washington, DC): Aromas of blackberries, tart cherries, a lots of smoke and meat. Crisp acidity on the palate, plump texture and the blackberry fruit is still going. Notes of violets, smoke, olive brine, pepper, beef broth and roasted red pepper. Nice and tangy with a peppery finish. Still going!
