January 15, 2018 - Cali, Oregon and Burgundy Pinot Noir Blind Tasting (New Jersey, USA): Brought by a friend to our Pinot Noir Blind Tasting but not included in the overall tasting rankings and mostly drunk before everyone arrived. Nevertheless tasted blind by everyone else but him. It was light to medium ruby with some bricking throughout so that it clearly looks fairly old (probably a bit older looking than its 10 years would suggest). It is reasonably well structured with low-medium tannin and fairly high acidity. There is lots of earthy cherry, a touch of dried cranberry and some spice (white pepper). It really "popped" with cherry when paired with a dry rubbed grilled salmon.

February 26, 2016 - Smooth, still plenty of fruit. More mellow than the 2010 tasted the same night

April 12, 2012 - Another wonderful Calera, my idea of California pinot. If only I could let them age to their full potential....

March 27, 2012 - A bit of a legendary winery, Calera was one of the pioneers of pinot in California. I had never had any, so I was stoked (CA slang, thank you very much) to try this. It was not at the bar, but in the kitchen, so I sucked up to the servers (something I do often–from my days working in the boarding school–befriend the kitchen and the janitors ASAP), and got them to bring out a bottle for me to try. It worked (shock). And I really liked this wine. A lot. Had I had a pork chop or a mushroom risotto, this might have been the WOTN. It was rustic but lacking a bit fruit when compared to the Flowers and the Farrell. Nonetheless, it was fantastic. Outstanding.
