    April 15, 2019 - Old World from the New World (Amy & Scott's): Decanted 2 hours. This wine was weird. Initially there was distinct christmas candy, which came and went until it mellowed into more of a mint or eucalyptus element. This wine is not shy, there are a lot of outstanding smells and flavors to it. Tangy berry, cassis, graphite, a little licorice.

    March 16, 2019 - A wonderful, complex cab in a Bordeaux way. Still going strong. Drank over 7 hours and didn’t miss a beat. Wait at least 5 years for last one.

    January 20, 2019 - I enjoyed this bottle with grilled beef tenderloin but kept thinking that this wine needs more time. It was super concentrated and took a while to open up. I would say to open it at least two hours before drinking. The concentration initially was quite harsh. Once open it displayed layers of flavor: dark fruits, graphite, earth, and tar. I would say hold and if you open one give it plenty of air. I only have one remaining and plan to hold off for five years.

    Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours.

    Purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of lavender, potpourri, Kirsch, boysenberry and plum. Flavors of plum, boysenberry and black cherry. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold. NOTE: throwing a decent amount of sediment so be sure and stand for a few days before opening.

    December 1, 2018 - Turn of the Century Bordeaux vs. Napa Tasting; 12/1/2018-12/2/2018: On initial decant was concerned this wine was flawed as it was incredibly closed and a little bit acidic. Double decanted and drank roughly 3 hours later and it was completely different. Some caramel on the nose, the fruit came out to play and the mouth feel and complexity was really there. Ready to drink. 4th place out of 6 but not far off the top 3, 1999 Las Cases, 2001 Staglin, 2000 Cos. We're talking about milimeters separating these wines.

    November 21, 2018 - Huge disappointment. Would expect more from a classic in an excellent vintage, but thought this was kind of clipped and narrow. Never really opened up. Drank over 2 nights under pump and just never got a good feeling. Not bad, just high expectations unmet.

    September 23, 2018 - Crimson in color. 14.1% ABV. Clean nose of red fruits, leather, pencil shavings and cedar. Rich, concentrated and deceptively young. Currants, cassis, cherries and plums on the palate. The finish is exceptional with super silky tannins. Stunning Cabernet Sauvignon that holds true to the Montelena style. There was absolutely nothing problematic with this bottle. I have a few more left that I will look to drink over the next 4-6 years.
