October 11, 2019 - Double decanted for a good hour or so. Very little in terms of sediment. Helped in opening the wine.
Very much the old school cali cab this sets out to be and its now entering its proper drinking window. Bright and still on the fruit, little secondary, red fruits on the forefront, light kiss of oak at this stage. Very solid wine and with lots of life ahead. 92-93
September 1, 2019 - Clear medium ruby. Clean nose, medium intensity. Aromas of prunes, cedar, wet leaves, cooked plums. Full developed. Dry, medium acidity, medium, silky tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, medium plus flavor intensity of fruit preserves, meat, mushrooms, cured meat. Medium plus finish. Very good wine. Drink up now. Should not be aged much further.
August 14, 2019 - Decanted 30 minutes and enjoyed over the next two hours. This was very good but short of great. Plenty of rich, dark fruit but seems that this bottle didn’t have the freshness and backbone of previous bottles so I would be drinking up. A-?
July 19, 2019 - Pnp, drank over 2 hours. Earthy, Bordeaux-like characteristics. Black fruits but show in small doses. Felt it was getting past its prime but still drinkable. Smooth but a touch of old funk to it. Drink now or over next few years, though in fairness advanced age could be due to friend's non-ideal storage.
July 14, 2019 - drank over several days lasted well. Great build and flavor fruit just a little gone
July 12, 2019 - Black cherry graphite, rich cassis and charcoal on the nose. Great balance in the mouth, a complete wine. Beautiful secondary characteristics as well as generous fruit. Has many years of life ahead of it.
June 7, 2019 - PnP aged well. Nice wine but preferred the Shafer 1999. Treat to taste and compare to the ‘79 some time back.
April 15, 2019 - Old World from the New World (Amy & Scott's): Decanted 2 hours. This wine was weird. Initially there was distinct christmas candy, which came and went until it mellowed into more of a mint or eucalyptus element. This wine is not shy, there are a lot of outstanding smells and flavors to it. Tangy berry, cassis, graphite, a little licorice.
March 16, 2019 - A wonderful, complex cab in a Bordeaux way. Still going strong. Drank over 7 hours and didn’t miss a beat. Wait at least 5 years for last one.
January 20, 2019 - I enjoyed this bottle with grilled beef tenderloin but kept thinking that this wine needs more time. It was super concentrated and took a while to open up. I would say to open it at least two hours before drinking. The concentration initially was quite harsh. Once open it displayed layers of flavor: dark fruits, graphite, earth, and tar. I would say hold and if you open one give it plenty of air. I only have one remaining and plan to hold off for five years.
