July 27, 2020 - Just for the vintage, a truly nice Mouton. This one continues to surprise given the overall year. Good fruit, depth, reasonably broad. Good value! AT its very peak now but good for several more years.

July 18, 2020 - 2hr decant and enjoyed over next 2 hours with some steaks. The nose is intoxicating. Tons of red fruit with lots of florals, green pepper, fresh herbs and a good cigar right out of the humidor. This wine jumps right out of the glass. Brick red with strong orange hue on the rim. Medium bodied with. Tannins have integrated well but still a little grip here when I was hoping for a little more elegance. Terrific long finish. Really enjoyed this especially for the vintage . Wish I had another to revisit in 3-4 years.

June 5, 2020 - outstanding but bested by the Cos and the Ducru tasted aside it, although from a better vintage.

May 9, 2020 - Mother's day eve wine and isolation open that bottle wine combined. Decanted for about an hour. Quite a bit of sludge in the bottom of the bottle. Nice and deep ruby red heart transitioning to more garnet at the rim. Some bottle funk when initially decanted. That quickly blew off to reveal a rarefied melange of pencil lead, tobacco and cigar box notes overlying shy black currant and blue plums in the middle and then a more feral and earthy base note comprised of dried mushroom, loam, spice and caramelized beef. So many elements to the bouquet that blend seamlessly together over many, many layers and beckon you to delve deeper to tease them apart and discover more scents! It smells so amazing, I'm almost afraid to taste it! Much younger tasting than I would have expected. Brisk acidity, medium bodied, fine tannins and a dry, but not too dry, finish. The flavours are more in the dried red fruit spectrum. Dried strawberry, cherry and cranberry interwoven with pencil shavings, spice and strong tea. With food (rack of lamb) the flavour transforms into more purple and black fruits and the body fills out more. It really comes together then! Smooth, but with underlying tannins and acid to provide classic structure. Right at the end there is just the slightest hint of a green bark note that freshens it up. Stellar!

April 22, 2020 - Decanted 4 hours. Tasted alongside Lafite 2002. Clear orange notes on rim. Ripe nose of light blackcurrant & redcurrants, gentle bramble, light lavender, fennel and a light fresh acidity. Palate has a good weight, but not too heavy; has a little tannic grip, some clear aniseed as well as gentle dark blackcurrant. Not too persistent on aftertaste but has a lovely balance and freshness. Clearly drinking very well now. Drinking now-2027.

(Chateau Mouton-Rothschild) Classic nose of tobacco, tar, cassis, lead pencil and some spicy oak. Incredible amount of red fruits on the palate with huge structure and great defintion on the midpalate that extended to the finish. Long finish. Lots of stuff to chew on here. This has really fleshed out and gained weight since I tasted it out of barrel. Classic.
