January 2, 2019 - Deep garnet color. Earthy, musky aromas. Ripe entry shows the warm vintage. Dark cherry backlit by bright acids. The acids keep this from heaviness. Dry finish. This has miles to go. Still a little tight. 89-90.

December 31, 2018 - The color is very dark. The wine is very full-bodied, very fruity, very alcoholic and jammy. The aromas óf ripe dark fruits are impressive. The aftertaste is long. As a whole, and compared to some other CdP's, I find this wine a bit one-dimensional and heavy, but it is very enjoyable and big wine anyway. In my opinion, this wine is in a good drinking spot now.

April 2, 2018 - Janasse is one of the best Rhone wineries, with consistent high quality across the entire line, and impressive offerings at all price levels. This is their baseline Chateauneuf du Pape and the first bottle of the 2009 we have opened. Opaque colored, very aromatic, deliciously fruity, refreshing acidity, smooth and drying tannin, with a long and lingering finish. Highly enjoyable now with no need to drink up soon.

April 2, 2018 - Lots of sweet dark fruit, licorice and chocolate. Drinks very well now but will continue to develop.

April 1, 2018 - Very enjoyable, smooth CdP. Dark berrries, salt liqurice, meat, lavender and mushroom on the nose. Blackberries, liquirice, garrigue and leather on the palate. Very nice now but can surely go on and develop.

March 7, 2018 - At WINO, in New Orleans. This was a soft to-medium bodied red. Faint nose, maderized red fruit. Delicious, but somewhat lacking in intensity and structure for prolonged aging. I would say that this is fully mature, unsure if further aging will improve matters.

February 15, 2018 - Brought back from Paris in 2011 and has been sitting in the cellar since. Decanted for an hour before tasting. Incredible. Complex, Perfumed, and Rich. Bright in the glass without a hint of bricking. Surprising for the amount of time in the cellar and the sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Drank over two days. Would love to have another bottle in 5 and 10 years.

June 17, 2017 - Purple color and rather muddy. Very subdued nose. On the palate, plenty of dark fruits, but quite peppery and dry. This bottle was lacking the balance and purity I typically experience with a Janasse CNP.
