July 13, 2020 - The 82 LLC is probably the most inconsistent RP100 wine. Tonight’s bottle lacked freshness and power. A soft and mellow bordeaux that was just ordinary.

May 22, 2020 - Under performer. Possibly an off bottle.

March 27, 2020 - All bought as futures and well stored. Tasted along with 1982 Barton and Poyferre at St Julien dinner at home with friends. All three decanted for 3 hours. Poyferre ready now and very good - 94. Barton bigger and needs a few years - 95. Las Cases outstanding but needs another 5 or ten years. It was better the following day - 97+.

March 22, 2020 - 1 hr slow ox. Reddish with a slight brown tone, bricked nicely at the edges. This is definitely a long term player, and it’s nowhere near end of life. A special treat on this night!

Absolutely stunning! Perfect in every way, no obvious flaws holding this back. Obviously no oak or tannin in this 38 year old. Nose of forest floor, damp earth, wet cardboard, wet rock, touch of Luden’s cough drop, slight menthol. Palate of red cherries and more Luden’s. No hard edges finish lingers 45 seconds. Paired perfectly with grilled ribeyes and sirloin. Drank better at 55-60F, pulled from cellar at 52 and let it warm a bit, had to chill periodically to keep it in the zone.

The Geaux kids home from school gushed over this one too...I made them drink wine instead of beer or White Claws. Tough life when your dad says “you better finish that ‘82 Las Cases”

I struggled with 99 vs 100. I solved this first world problem and wonder how I can get my hands on more of this.

March 22, 2020 - Good bottle. Double decant. I was underwhelmed to some degree however. Compared to the Cos of 82, Cos performs better. I purchased from HDH a case at auction. Drank a 1995 Leonetti cab in the same night. Hamburger and hot dogs. Good nose, lacking tertiary notes. Minimal tannin. Maybe its my palate and genetic make up not allowing this bottle to express its full potential. Plan is to try another time. I purposefully don't read my previous reviews to help some with bias. This review is in contrast with past 2 reviews which makes me happy that could be bottle variability.

(Château Léoville Las Cases) From magnum -dried mushroom, truffle and beef bouillon nose; tasty, au point, with tertiary flavors still minor compared to the deep black fruit, much more youthful than most of the '82s I've had; medium-plus finish

(Leoville-Las Cases) The 1982, which I have had once before at the same location and it was tight as a you know what. Tonight it was no different. What is up with this wine? Mute on the nose with hints of tobacco, earth and mineral but not much else and you had to really concentrate to smell that tobacco, earth and mineral. The palate was closed shut and only started to come out of its shell towards the end of the night and you could see hints of its greatness. Three years between me having this wine and it budged maybe an inch. This maybe outlive us all. I say ten years before it starts to strut its stuff.

(Chateau Leoville Las Cases) This was just young. Ungiving on the nose but all the stuff on the palate was there. Dark fruits, amazing levels of concentration, a long sneaky finish, noble tannins and the proper balance but this botttle showed particularly young and closed. Eh, it happens. Great wine but hold off for at least five more.
