March 1, 2019 - A little bit off balance on the finish. A bit light at the tip in depth. It's fine bubbly but seems to be missing something.

(NV Canard-Duchêne Brut) Sherbet lemons on the nose, a little note of weediness too. And on the palate, a very firm structure, forceful acidity and a sharp mousse. Some softness in the midpalate though, and a gentle, minerally finish. It is very firm and upright; a little more depth and character would be appreciated.

(NV Canard-Duchêne Brut) Rather sulphurous nose, with little else showing here today, so the nose is rather difficult to judge. An exceedingly foamy palate, very open and soft, the wine almost disappears on the palate, leaving just a trace of a few bubbles. I can find little in the way of positive comment to make here.

(NV Canard-Duchêne Brut) This is fresh, but has more toasty and yeasty aromas than the previous wines. Round and full on the palate, with fairly sharp acidity and a foaming mousse. Some power to the yeasty character.

(NV Canard-Duchêne Brut Champagne) Purchased Summer 2000. Attractive lemon-gold, with a fairly coarse bead. The nose is initially mineral and white citrus fruit, but it quickly develops bready, leesy, yeasty notes. The palate has a sharp mousse, fresh acidity, mineral notes, is also quite bready. Finishes with a creamy touch. A good NV, with a hint of elegance on the nose.
