Community Tasting Notes 7

October 2, 2022 - Interesting the comments noting "light oak". I opened this blind with some fellow winemakers. This was all about massive new oak, but it's an elegant oak like you'd find in a Grand Cru Burg. People don't think of those as typically being 100% new oak. This was very rich and expressive from the oak, too distracting for anyone to pick up the varietal expression that is there. People were leaning Alsace and some similar performing varieties. I don't know how this showed young, but this is solid, fun and not going anywhere.

August 6, 2013 - Really fun and interesting to drink an off-the-beaten-path varietal from such pricey vineyard land...and the bottle info says that they planted the Aligote fairly recently. Nice complexity, good acid, enjoyable creamy notes, all detailed by other tasters. Drink up, I think; it lost its best qualities fairly quickly.

March 3, 2012 - This is a nice wine with aroma of apple and pear with some smokiness. It has fruits and butter on the palate with a creaminess in the finish followed by light oak. Silky mouthfeel is very pronounced as is the lemony acidity that keeps your mouth watering along with the long complex finish that has some safron and quite a good dose of chalky, briney, minerality.

May 28, 2011 - Tasting room pour. Apple and pear on the nose along with botanical notes. Apple and peachy fruit with mineral touches. Finishes dry and clean.

April 13, 2011 - Calera Winery visit (Calera Wines, Hollister, CA): Savory nose, sweet flavors, floral finish.
