Community Tasting Notes 32

  • 2020 Does not like this wine:

August 18, 2019 - As previously noted in other reviews, the color on this is quite advanced. It was definitely very golden.

Regarding flavor, there was absolutely no fruit left. If you swirled the glass, there were aromas. As soon as it stopped swirling, you only had the smell of alcohol. Odd, and not enjoyable.

Maybe my fault for waiting too long, but I had one on the 4th of July and it was excellent. Both were well stored, kept in a cellar. I couldn’t finish the second half of the bottle and dumped it. Ouch.

December 1, 2018 - Bought at the Domaine in Beaune. A lot more developed in color than I expected. Luckily, no premox. Nose of peaches and other orchard fruits, light butter and hints of honey. This is in an interesting stage. It should be reaching full maturity within a year or two. After that I feel the decline will start. Good density, good amount of extract, pronounced acidity, and good length. If the attack was fiercer and more persistant this would be a great wine. It is very good, but misses those points to make it great. It still beat Rita's Crown.

November 26, 2018 - Like others' notes indicate, the color is quite deep on this and the wine is fully mature. Last time I had it blind against a same-year and vineyard Jadot. Having been told one was the Jadot and the other the Drouhin, I guessed the more developed wine to be the Jadot (based on my experiences with both houses). I was wrong then and am still shocked that this wine is so advanced. It has begun its decline though still very good (if you like your WB to be showing age).

September 18, 2018 - Far more developed color to this than last time (a few years back), light to medium golden; mature, ripe nose of spiced golden apple, faintly aldehydic. Huge palate presence, ripe orchard fruit, viscous, brisk acidity giving it real persistence; a touch of heat from ETOH. Obvious warm vintage character. A big, impressionable wine of impact. While quite good, it's a bit over the top for me.

November 28, 2017 - Drouhin event. Pear, ripe, round and quite viscous.
