March 10, 2016 - Bonhams Pre-Sale Tasting (San Francisco): Light center, pale edge. Cedar and cracked pepper (more like Syrah in the latter regard). Medium to full bodied with outstanding texture. Some olive flavors, gentle tannin. Excellent and very vigorous for 40 year old wine.

February 13, 2012 - A bottle of 1978 Silver Oak was maderized, but this one was very good. The color is that of a youthful wine, and the palate likewise shows youthful dark fruit, with a bit of Coonawarra-like lima bean, good acidity and freshness. Remarkably vibrant and still showing young. With Laurent, Josh and Linda at Ciano.

July 17, 2005 - Leaving NYC and moving to San Francisco; 7/16/2005-7/17/2005: Still slightly alive this bottle was purchased on release and never moved from 53 degrees. With its lower alcohol, this mountain made cabernet was hitting on a few cylinders tonight. Light in style and silky soft its beginning to descend. Still holding some fruit and structure, it faded quickly.

September 17, 1988 - With MPL and Niley Dorit at Singer & Foy. Very good dark ruby in color. Aromatic nose smells of bell peppers. Dense flavors, but extremely vegetal. 5-8-10-4: 77/100.

September 16, 1988 - With MPL and BLR at Singer & Foy. Quite dark in color. Shy, polite nose. Fairly tannic, this wine has fruit but wants more. Somewhat bitter. Still good. 5-9-13-6: 83/100.
