Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.7 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 243 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by coremill on 10/8/2023 & rated 86 points: Disappointing to me. I know a lot of the notes say this wine ages well and this vintage is in a good spot, but this bottle tasted past its prime to me. Lacked concentration and zip, with a slight hollow bitterness. (1017 views)
Tasted by FreddieMoose on 9/15/2023 & rated 92 points: Bottle 10 of 12 purchased on release. Light pink and orange color. Gorgeous perfumed nose of melon, minerals and spice. Rich flavors of strawberry and citrus that really stain the palate. Perfectly balanced and drinking beautifully today. Domaine Tempier is one of my favorites from Provence and the six years of bottle of age proves the point that top tier rosé from Bandol benefit from bottle aging. Super tasty tonight with the flatbread pizza. (1021 views)
Tasted by mmlevy2 on 9/4/2023: Drank with crab sauce at the Avrillons (891 views)
Tasted by llink on 8/5/2023 & rated 90 points: Orange and pink. Very aromatic, melon, lime and a savory/slightly funky aroma. Rich palate, stone fruit, rhubarb, orange rind and a bitter aperol element. Very quaffable. (1090 views)
Tasted by amateur62 on 7/18/2023 & rated 91 points: Mourvèdre (~ 50%) with Grenache and Cinsault,13.5% vol. Bottle 5 of 6. PnP and enjoyed over two days.

On the nose melon, lime and a hint of orange peel (on day one mainly melon, on day two more lime), on the palate fresh and creamy, long finish with a nice bitter note.

Very good, I liked it more on the first day (91+) than on the second (90) but this might be just a matter of taste. (1212 views)
Tasted by Wineallover on 7/16/2023 flawed bottle: From magnum. Really didn’t enjoy it at all (no one did) so i will say the bottle was defective given prior raving comments (although there was nothing wrong per se!). Might just be bottle variation. One more so will have the opportunity to reassess. (888 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 7/11/2023 & rated 93 points: Clear medium light pink. Fresh red berry fruit, hints of orange peel and red flowers. Dry spicy berry fruit and a long dry finish.

Definitely showing no age or funk. Pure. (1038 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 7/10/2023: Just another note adding to the chorus of people who have reported that this legendary rose is coming into its best days. Very pale pink, not a trace of mature flavors or oxidation. (Coop's) (1006 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 6/22/2023 & rated 92 points: Planning Session II (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Light salmon color. Drank a glass plus over an hour. I had brought a Tempier to a dinner about 2 months ago, and I was thinking it was a '16. When i went to write this up, I realized it was another '17. Well they really were quite similar. This was ultra fresh, lifted, strawberry, peach, white flowers, and sea air on the nose. There's a lovely purity to the palate, peach, stone and minerals, fresh strwaberries, watermelon and subtle watermelon rind with notes of lychee on the expressive finish. 92+ to 93pts. (1176 views)
Tasted by Ardross on 5/27/2023 & rated 90 points: Satin textured , light orangey pink - lemon, garrigue flowers and backbone - lovely as ever. (926 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 4/22/2023 & rated 93 points: Pearl Dinner by Don Saunders (Doc's Hall, St. Louis Park, MN): Light salmon color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. I found this very evocotive, building over 15 minutes plus on the nose; gorgeous fruits, peach, blood orange, red berries, floral, earthy with less pronouced sea breeze. The palate is spot on with the same fruit profile and minerality, and then the earth, dried Provencal herbs and white pepper shows off on the mid and back end. These are so good with this kind of age on them. (1446 views)
Tasted by llink on 4/9/2023 & rated 90 points: Easter Sunday afternoon wine sipping poolside. Lovely melons, peach and a savory element on the nose that has a little mushroom/funk. Gorgeous texture, saline infused, juicy fruit strawberry/orange and a slightly bitter element that adds lift. I like the Tempier Rose with 5-6 years of age. This held up really well on day 2. (1067 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 3/6/2023 & rated 90 points: intoxicating nose; this is more on the savory/mineral side now. While still great, i preferred the version from 1-2 years ago, when the fruit and texture were more prominent. (1426 views)
Tasted by NYC_Maenad on 12/30/2022: Out of magnum this was fresh as a daisy, bright and clean with a light corral color and elegant confit citrus and apricots. Showing signs of mature generosity, but not dissipated at all. This held up well over a few hours of dinner, and I kept returning to it for freshness and change of pace among a table full of reds. No problem here matching with spice and hints of Asian flavors, but also great with a dense chicken liver mousse. (1835 views)
Tasted by mpalestini on 9/25/2022 & rated 92 points: This wine has aged wonderfully. Still wonderful but I think this rose won’t hold another year. Drink up. (1934 views)
Tasted by beatles on 7/24/2022 & rated 92 points: Serious, interesting wine. Strawberry, orange confit, minerals, small hints of sous bois, even coffee, this is an Old World wine if I ever saw one - I need more of these in my cellar.

Tasted by galewskj on 7/16/2022 & rated 88 points: I can almost smell the minerals. The palate is ponderous, but as usual, this rose does not strike me as lively or acidic enough. The fruit profile seems dull and it needs at least a little sweetness for balance. I don't get it, and I've given up. (2173 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 7/10/2022 & rated 92 points: Summer Wines (Craig & Nita's Place): Light Norwegian Salmon color. I think I got lucky and just grabbed the tail end of the bottle before it slipped away. I've been fortunate enough to have a series of Tempier Rose over the last couple weeks with none disappointing. One of these days maybe we will do a more serious horizontal, sitting down and comparing seriously. It's tough to make hard comparisons with small pours in an entirely social setting. That said, this was impressive and had the peach, florals, minerals and sea breezes blowing blissfully across the nose and palate. 92+pts. (2383 views)
Tasted by aChave on 4/3/2022 & rated 92 points: Delicious rose. Balanced, mature, integrated, with intense but rounded red fruit flavors. Rewards patience. (2741 views)
Tasted by jlhkiss on 1/19/2022 & rated 93 points: Opened and let air ahead of garlic-shrimp salad. Pale orange-salmon color with a golden hue. The nose brings orange blossoms, pink lavender, bubblegum, whiffs of strawberry pie, and tons of crushed, chalky granite. The palate is light, round, oily, and viscous, bringing fresh apricots, tangerines, peach, watermelon, kiwi-lime, saline, and more herbs and minerals into a refined, lengthy finish. Like all Tempier Roses, the strength of this wine is in the subtle nuances. Great vintage (unfortunately last bottle). Drink 2022-2024. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 93. (2772 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 8/16/2021 & rated 87 points: The nose on this is heaven, bright crisp red fruit with minerals. The flavor is unexciting and there's a spicy semi-alcoholic finish. (3426 views)
Tasted by chatters on 8/1/2021: Sunday lunch at KC's (KC's place): Initially a little closed and reductive almost, opens to show lovely fresh strawberry and raspberry fruit with a savoury underpin. This translates to the palate, a little grip, long, fleshy and fresh. A lovely enjoyable afternoon tipple. (3347 views)
 Tasted by Alykhan V on 7/15/2021 & rated 91 points: Copper-hued
Aromas of dried herbs, some melon, dried red fruits, and citrus. Very savoury and herbal.
Complex but also great on the patio
Drink now or over next 2-3 years (3192 views)
Tasted by SB5784 on 7/7/2021 & rated 93 points: From memory - perfect summer afternoon pour. Light rose color. Nose of rose, floral notes, melon, and light red berries. Also a saline character to it. On the palate, great acidity, but with a red ripeness in the mid palate (but not sweet). Very refreshing. Excellent. (2911 views)
Tasted by amateur62 on 7/2/2021 & rated 91 points: Another year after the prior. PnP. Reminds me to the five roses from Leone de Castris in the earlier days of my wine drinking career. On the nose melon, a hint of ethereal and a warm impression for a rosé, on the palate concentrated, creamy texture and very approachable with a good length. On the way up again, curious how it will be with an additional year in the cellar. (2669 views)

Domaine Tempier

Producer website

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

Domaine Tempier is located at Le Plan du Castellet. Its vineyards stretch over three different communities- Le Castellet, Le Beausset and La Cadière. The plots of land are thus far apart and require extra work. But the soil of these different areas yield distinctive cuvées -Spéciale, Migoua, Tourtine and Cabassaou - as well as interesting and complex blends for white, rosé and red wines.
Domaine Tempier owns 30 hectares. It produces AOC Bandol exclusively - an average of 68% red, 29% rosé and 3% white wines, approximately 120,000 bottles per year
