A lovely Richebourg which is at its peak. Very refined, elegant, smooth, fresh silky. Not quite the concentration or the complexity of a 05 La Tâche drunk on the same day, but it is deliciously juicy with a satin like texture and a rather nice length considering the relative weakness of the vintage.

The tanning of this bottle has not been well integrated. The concentration is good. Aroma of moist forest, cinnamon, bay leaves. Compared with 2017 DRC Richebourg, it is more classical. But as time goes by, the tanning drops badly.

Dégustation Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Verticale 2017, avec Déjeuner (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): First of two bottles tasted over lunch. Fully mature aromas and flavors were so mature that I would have thought it from an underripe vintage in the 1980s if served blind. Which is not to say it is bad, just very advanced, even while still showing lots of red cherry and baking spice that I would expect from Vosne. Good weight and length. Second bottle was quite different....

Delicate spices, subtle sandalwood, small forest berries, ferns, pine, etc...lots of subtlety and complexity; silky elegant palate, slightly elevated acidity but not too much; lovely wine, so interesting to see the polar opposite in the '03. Zachy's Burg Wine Dinner at AOC.

(Romanée-Conti Richebourg) Yield 27.25 hl/ha - or 953 cases. Slightly deeper colour. Violets and smoke on the sweet nose - the stems are more forward than with the previous wines. Lovely red fruit notes waft from the almost drained glass. Again a different approach - the wine starts narrow but widens and widens on the palate. There tannins are evident but well covered by fruit. The length is very sneaky indeed. There is similar concentration but better balance compared to the Saint-Vivant. Despite not fileding the usual Richebourg 'punch', this is a super package.

Dégustation Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Verticale 2017, avec Déjeuner (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): Second bottle tasted over lunch was quite different than the first. Fresher and more intensely Vosne-spiced, this seemed around the right age, but was less fully composed and layered vs the first bottle. Still very tasty and enjoyable.
