Ruby, still quite intensely coloured at least for a nebbiolo based wine, with orange hue in thin layers. The nose deliveres right from the start without airing scents of smoke, tar, dark fruits, roses, celery, cherries and pine. On the palate it shows a great balance of fruit, acids and tannins. Already quite smooth. With more time, maybe 30 minutes in the glass it gets more intensety, nose as palate. Extended airing over hours from the bottle takes some of the nuances. This is ready to drink and should hold through for 10-15 more years before slow decline. 5/14/18/10. 98 points from Larner for the WA. -2038 Nearly extraordinary.

A quite mighty, thrilling Barolo, typically 2010, typically Cerretta. Somber in comparison to Altare’s other wines, but with a shining inner core and allure. Rich and bold, oscillating between density and pliancy. Dark fruits, blueberry, dried rose petals, sweet smoke, mentholated chocolate, dark minerals an a whiff of vanilla mark the big fruit core of this expressive, intense 2010 Barolo with plenty of Altare ID.

Super layered, explosive and perfumed, with notes of menthol, dark cherries, pine, some sweet spices, tobacco, tar, violets, black tea and some cedar wood. It‘s pretty full-bodied, with high acidity and medium-high tannin, that is exceptionally silky. Long finish with plenty of complexity. A superb Cerretta from one of Piemonte‘s legendary producers. This still has a long life ahead.

During a Barolo/Piedmont tasting lunch, not blind. Very dense wine, lots of tar, cherry, brooding and tannic.
