Asian herbs, white peppers, kirsch, cherry licorice, earth and minerals. This bottle was a touch astringent. Masculine and rustic yet missing the signature Jamet charm of elegance. Others liked it better than I did.

Possibly the first Jamet Côte-Rôtie where I actually prefer the Côte Brune over the standard cuvée, the 1999 is feral yet shows enough finesse to find balance. Roast meat, licorice, black pepper, and a reductive mineral undertone. On the palate, silky texture, softening tannins, and incredible intensity and concentration to the full bodied flavors of black fruit and minerals. Lengthy finish. Drink now through 2030.

Very young still but with coaxing shows classic Cote Rotie flavors of roasted meats and smoky black fruits along with hints of herbs, black pepper and licorice. Really big and rich with excellent intensity and great floral lift. Finishes tangy and very complex with notes of dark spices and ancient forest. Goes down like motor oil made from diamonds. As is typical, a bit bigger and deeper than Jamet's regular bottling but not necessarily better. 95+

Cornas and Cassoulet dinner. A ringer with some great Cornas. Easy to pick out in a blind flight. Gorgeous wine. Still young.
