  • Pristine, with a great fill, and coming from an obscure (to me) and long-gone producer with a cool backstory, this is a bottle I've had teed up in my cellar for years, but never had the right occasion until last night, when a friend called to invite two of us to dinner at his house, with a Red Grand Cru Burgundy theme. Sadly, there was no question that this bottle was corked, but my friends urged me to keep the wine at the dinner table. The taint did seem to blow off, mostly, and was almost unnoticeable on the palate after the first 2-3 sips of each glass, revealing what must have been a marvelous wine. I detected plenty of lifted white cherry notes, concentrated and suave. Call it a near miss, as I am grateful the bottle still had something to offer.

  • Ghost of Clos Vougeot: Expressive nose, but more herbal and austere, pine and botanicals, leathery red berry fruit. Still very fresh, and this is evolving and gaining brighter fruit with air. Intricate and complex. Palate is tight knit, red fruit is more cranberry, but there is nice nuance here. Bottles directly from the domaine.
