Orange to brown medium dark in color. Intensive mature nose full of pepper (Sumatra long pepper), ripe black berries, oak, earth, a hinge of balsamic vinegar. Medium body, very mature taste, cellary, earthy, and some acidity but still with fruits left. Enjoyable, having spent many years in my cellar!

Metallic zinc laden balsamic talcum powdery fruits. Fine elegant restrained Syrah fruit. Burg Bordeaux like and nothing like a ott Syrah. A little short but well liked.

Martin's Birthday Bash (Gallery Hotel, Singapore): Good, but rather advanced for its age, and drinking almost like a Burgundy from the 1970s or early 80s'. This smelt a lot older than it should on first pour, with slightly musty aromas of wet soil, socks and dried winter melon sort of dampening its brighter scents of red-fruited cherries, dried roses and some smoky, tarry accents. It opened up quite beautifully though, with those funky aromas toning down a bit, and the wine taking on a more flower, fruity perfume with time. The palate was also very developed, with matured flavours of died black cherries and red berries seasoned with a touch of meat and spice, and a streak of ferrous minerality. There was still a nice bit of juicy acidity that gave the wine a clean, clear tone, but it was also very soft, perhaps lacking just a bit of backbone as it slipped into a mid-lengthed finish. All is all, this was a fully resolved wine, quite ripe for drinking now. While delicious on the night, I am not sure it will hold for far longer.
