  • Dark fruit, acid, tannins. Still feels young.

  • A classic! So rich, elegant, fresh, and lots of depth. The old vine Grenache really stands out here. Expressive floral and wild berry nose. Dense, creamy palate with so many wonderful layers of flavor: cassis, blackberry, plum, mineral, herb and spice. Great balance, well integrated tannins. Super long, smooth and persistent finish. A truly spectacular wine to drink now or to continue cellaring for many more years. :)

  • Undrinkable upon opening. Jammy, disjointed, flabby. Threw away my glass and recorked the bottle. 48 hours later, this had evolved into something more palatable. Still slightly too alcoholic for my tastes, but borderline good. Like the ugly duckling morphing, over time, into a passably attractive swan.

  • Late night at home with neighbourhood friends. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Apearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of balsamic, aniseed spice, dark peppers, raisinated plums, black cherries, earth, olives. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of raisins, stewed plums, black cherries, savoury earth, dark olives, spices and peppers. Big long finish.
Good quality CdP. But my gosh the price for this nowadays! Complex and probably drinking at peak. Don't expect the structure to completely melt away with age. Better to drink up while the fruit is still not too overly stewy raisinated plummy, or worse still - totally dried up.

  • This is totally in the zone now. Still healthy young color. Very classic aged CdP notes, there is some red and darker fruit, kirsch, some savory herbs/pepper, also some cinnamon, garrigue, pepper, but also some animalic notes. It's pretty full-bodied and deep, still more on the structured than fruit side, but the tannin has melted away quite significantly since my last bottle a few years ago. There is still medium- tannin, some medium acidity and very good length. This is still a more structued, savory CdP, but I would take this over the warm vintage fruitbombs any day of the week.
