This was wonderful with typical notes of cigar box and tar but intermingled with some currant on the nose. Restrained for a CDP and I really liked that. Elegant along the palate with moderate weight. Flavors were complex and soft that lingered on the palate delightfully. Drinking really well.

Deep red center, red rim with some signs of age (slight browning). Sweet, cherries, dried herbs, a little malt, very slight VA. Smooth, raspberries & cherries, dried oregano, some minerality, residual acidity and tannin, faded fruit finish. OK length but fading. Outstanding, but was probably better a couple of years ago. The majority of 1998s CNdPs I've encountered haven't aged well, this is no exception.

Gnarly, tar box and wood, briar patch. Fruit in the past. 4 hour decant

My experience was much more positive than most of the notes here. This wine was clearly mature, but not over the hill, with nice, elegant red fruit.
