Chateauneuf du pape tasting (at my home): Appearance: The 2000 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à J. Perrin is a deep ruby red color with hints of garnet. The wine has a medium-plus viscosity.
Nose: The nose is complex and inviting, with aromas of ripe black fruits, such as blackberries, cherries, and plums, as well as notes of earth, leather, and spice. The wine also has a hint of smoke.
Palate: The palate is full-bodied and powerful, with flavors of ripe fruit, earth, and spice. The wine has firm tannins that are well-integrated. The finish is long and lingering.
Overall: The 2000 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à J. Perrin is a well-made and complex wine that is ready to drink now but will continue to improve with age. The wine is a good match for grilled meats, roasted game, or hearty pasta dishes.

Quite a hedonistic wine! Loads of ripe, sweet fruit, very complex with wonderful aromatics. This seems to have entered prime drinking zone, with many years left to continue to develop. I’d expect it will be even more special in 10 years based on my experience with 89’/90’ Beaucastel.

Dinner at the Papies (The Papies, Elizabeth St, London): Opened and left to rest and frankly the wise choice. 3rd time we try this and a magnificent 98 once again. Last time 5 years ago almost to the day we said we dnt really need to say anything else about this wine but its just shy of perfection. Frankly this could well be perfect . 98+

I loved this wine, and I would characterize it as having medium power with maximum complexity. What one reviewer characterized as "kaleidoscopic". In fact, when you look at the many CT tasting notes, they are all over the place in their taste and aromatic descriptors. It's very hard to pull them all out and describe them in a way that it is helpful to someone who wants to know what the wine is like. For now, we'll just say it was terrific, and let it go at that.

Still quite primary and fresh! Far from ready for prime time drinking. I would cellar this for another 5-10 years for the typical tertiary character that we love from beaucastel to develop.

(Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin) Sexy, beautiful nose; vanilla, caramel, coffee, berry palate, with rich and pure fruit; long finish
