Wine Group Dinner #179, Harvey's Restaurant, Brisbane. 2005 Right Bank Major Growths. This wine had a perfect pale green gold colour and a lovely nose of white peach, freshly cut pear, yuzu and limestone. The palate was tender in structure with a ball of bright fruit and a touch of vanilla that fell away slightly on the finish. The overall effect was a delicious wine albeit a little gentle rather than gripping. It continued to open in the glass suggesting that more length could come from further maturation in formats that are all sealed.

Opened and decanted around four hours. Initially a bit tight. Strawyellow. After decanting its a blockbusterwine. Grilled lemon, white flowers, wet stone and exotic spices. Some reductive elements, gunpowder. A mindblowing concentration. Big and muscular. Some expensive oak. Beautifully balanced. An ending lasting more than 90 sec. A hedonistic wine that shows just how special Montrachet is. Its a thrilling experience. This should be vibrant for another decade, but decanted its great now. Maybe the score is too low.

Some wood, butter and minerals, smoke and toast, citrus; very structured and long, much extract, almost violent.

Intense but a bit too much smoke in the nose for me. Would give it time.
