This was an interesting ride today! I opened the bottle at 1p to check in. It smelled super fresh, but it literally tasted like mud. Since there was nothing that was obviously wrong with the wine (other than just tasting dirty) I figured there was a decent chance it would eventually come around with air. I tasted it again after an hour and it showed signs of improvement, so I gave it a few more hours. By dinner time, it was in pretty good shape and actually quite tasty! I wouldn’t say that this was a perfectly stored bottle, there was probably a tiny bit of heat damage along the way at some point, but it was still lovely and drank pretty well in the end.

Festa del Piemonte: Gala Dinner (The Pool in NYC): This is perhaps unfair as this is a particular favorite winery of mine and there just is something about precision and beauty and elegance and for this to be the second wine is really saying something. A persona after my own heart as the wine had been double decanted so no worries on sediment and it was able to show in all its freshness. Amazing.

Wine Workshop: White Label Giacosa and White Truffles (Locanda Verde): This bottle was probably slightly off. Less of the fruit and rose and tar and more of a smokey/gamey (other's adjectives)... to me it was mostly just sour in that way that a food which has slightly turned bad is sour (e.g. not a not fully ripe item). So gives a sense of funk.

Classic, heady fruit, succulent but not perfect, bit stewy.

Seventeenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Hughes House - Chicago IL): In Giacosa flight. Like the 1982 Barbaresco Riserva, this was mature and certainly enjoyable with classic and charming Nebbiolo styling, but didn't quite shine for me.
