2013 Ridge Monte Bello

Community Tasting Note

96 Points

Wednesday, December 21, 2022 - Opened by LostVerse who graciously allowed us to raid his cellar and choose any bottle to open. This was poured next to a 2013 Montelena Estate. Decanted for 2 hours. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot. An elegant and smooth wine. A peppery nose. Notes of crushed grape skins, berries, carmel and spices on the finish. On day 2 it was more earthy with a little bit of iron. Still imporving. This was the best Monte Bello that I have had (1990,1995, 2002 and 2010). 96+ points.

12/21/2022 9:15:00 AM - MB is maybe my favorite wine. I have had every vintage from 1988 to 2016. 2013 is the best MB made IMO. needs many more years but is a great wine today

12/22/2022 10:35:00 AM - I got 8 bottles as well. It is worth popping one, I would decant 6-8 hours and it will show really well. Don't touch another one for a decade, but they are approachable and so damn good...
