Tuesday, March 9, 2010 - After enjoying a superb '89 Sociando-Mallet last week, it was time for trying one of these famous Meyneys from this terrific vintage. I recall the '03 to be upfront fresh for the vintage, the '89 showed some simular characteristics. Pop and pour, long soaked cork came out in one piece. Complex nose with cherry, cassis, plum, cedar, lavender, chocolate, mud and leafs. What a sniffer! On the palate above all FRESH considering its age of 21. Plum, black currant, mint, earth, mushrooms and just plain sweet and exotic. Superb balance and agreeable length/finish with some remaining tannins. This wine is at its best now. Fresh, alive, with nice secondory aromas and attracting sweetness. Well done! 91/100
