Friday, November 5, 2010 - This is what the mean by a wine at its absolute peak. Opened, let breath for about 90 minutes (not decanted), and poured. This wine is in its absolute perfect drinking window. On the nose, I can't imagine ANYONE picking this out as a Napa Cab, it's purely Bordeaux. The black fruit is there, but this is all leather, some forest floor, bark, and just a touch of eucalyptus or some other leaf. It was the only characteristic that hinted at Cali Cab, and it was very subtle. I've never had a wine with such perfectly integrated tannin. The wine was pure silk, more leather on the palate, with a touch of fig and a fantastic finish that must have gone on for over a minute. Truly a classic Cali Cab.
