Friday, February 25, 2011 - Good wine and quite the Larose but preferred the 2000. The 1996 just seemded to slightly over-exaggerate this wine's usual attributes; a tad too excessive. 30 minute double decant. As others have noted, it had a huge amount of funk on opening. Very briney / brackish for the first hour, with a finish that tasted of some onion. Very backward. A touch too much acidity. May perform better in a few years. Still on the way to its peak, no rush to drink.
