Wednesday, June 13, 2012 - Dinner with Vincent (Giant Garoupa Restaurant): This really was quite lovely. The last of three bottles, and I really wish I had more. It had a very inviting nose, gentle, yet complex with its notes of sweet green pear and ripe lemons, a bit of cream from the lees, and then a nice undercurrant of earthy, chalky minerality with a saline edge to it. Nothing really in your face, but it was a very gently pleasing bouquet. The same thing could be said of the palate. It had a soft, creamy attack opening up in juicy flavours of pears and lemons, a touch of flowers - rather fruit forward, but all underlined by bright acidity and a steely, tensile mineral streak so that the backbone of the wine though the attack and the midpalate seemed almost stern until it that melted into a long, friendly finish where white fruit and wet stones melded together into a delicious package. Really yummy and lovely with our seafood. So much so that the wine was almost deceptively simple in its easy elegance. Yet if one really paid attention, there was quite a bit going on in there. A real treat.
