Friday, October 5, 2012 - Spotted the label from several feet away... knew it had to be an Orin Swift. Big fan of Mr Phinney's wines (though a bit unnerved by the labels). Joel Gott is a family favorite. Langedoc? One of my favorite wine regions! Grenache? Definitely one of my favorite varieties!

Brought this to a blind tasting wih Joe, Deb, Pat and Assad. Assad brought a Hess Mt Veeder Cab. The cab was admittedly a bit young and still closed, but with plenty of promise. Needless to say, Shatter won out!

Popped 'n Poured. Beautiful, dark, deep red color. Very promising nose. Black and red fruits. Great mouthfeel. Pleasantly complex, and slight stewed, with red fruit, dark fuit, spices and earth flavors. Though Old World sourced, still comes off as largely New World grenache flavors and impact. Nice finish, too.

Deb wants more of this (sent remainder home with her). So do I! Congrats again, Dave and Joel! Another winner!
