1989 Château Bouscaut

Saturday, June 15, 2013 - The cork was like new and came out with a startling pop. I decanted for 2 hours before trying.

A complex nose of leather, tobacco, cedar and black currant. As the wine opened, floral notes became more prominent.

The wine is medium bodied with black currant and leather. A nice finish of black spice. Still nicely acidic, tannins are present but very soft.

I bought this wine in 1993 as a bachelor. Four kids, two dogs, and a few pounds later, this wine is still respectable.

The cork was perfect and the wine gloriously fragrant--earthy, chocolatey with tobacco notes.

But as a drink it was a bit tired. Smooth, uneventful and definitely drying out. Good acids still, but more leather than fruit. Although we enjoyed it, the other bottle I still own will be consumed very soon.

For whatever reason, the 1990 was, and is, a superior bottle.

My kids were 1 and 2 years old when I got this...To your health, sir!
