Wednesday, January 29, 2014 - I had saved this bottle for a special occasion. Decanted 2 hours. Great pro reviews and CT reviews. Maybe my expectations were too high. A terrific bottle of wine but just didn't live up to the ratings. Beautiful crimson color. A little eucalyptus on the nose. Nice full body and delicious fruit, still some tannins but sweeter side. Finish disappoints. Too short and left me a little flat.

As a comparison of the noses the Caymus was far more fruit forward and more indicative of many Napa cabs. The Core was more subdued, a hint of eucalyptus (mint), some dark fruit (maybe blackberries) and a hint of currants. The Core was a more elegant wine, finesse, but lacked the finish, at least to us, to warrant 95-98 scores.
