90 Points

Tuesday, May 20, 2014 - The nose is unyielding. The balance is perfect. There's freshness, fruit and a tannic structure that you only feel when you think about it but when you feel it you know it's adequate for the long haul.

Similar to a young Lafarge Volnay (though the Etna wine has darker fruit and slightly more tannic structure) - you know that there are more charming and immediate pleasures to be had, still you sense the elegance and the potential that lies within and persuade yourself there's greatness just waiting to express itself.

At worst, this is an 85-87 wine - fresh, balanced, well made, but with no real wow-factor in terms of complexity. At its best, this would develop into something more in the neighborhood of 90-92 - touching excellency and sweet magic. My feeling right now, considering how very food friendly this is, and how price worthy, is that I can drink a lot of it and not get tired!

5/20/2014 1:55:00 PM - I liked your tasting note on this. I have been through 2 cases of the 2011 now and giving it a splash decant and letting it air for 3 hours helps significantly in getting it to open up both aromatically and in the mouth. I have one case left of the 2011 and will then move on to the 2012.
