2003 Colgin IX Estate

Thursday, April 3, 2014 - Even though the wine was decanted for 4 hours beforehand, I did find it somewhat closed at first and it was slow to open up. Very little on the nose. Very restrained and balanced palate relative to the 2005 Shafer Hillside Select next to it. Black fruits and strong eucalyptus notes on the palate. Stylistically, I did enjoy this better than the Shafer, although the Shafer did have more of a wow factor in the end. I think that this is at least 5-10 years away from prime drinking and has very good upside. 92-95

11/26/2014 6:39:00 PM - It is enjoyable today but needs a lot of air to open up based on my experience. Everyone at the table agreed that 5 more years would benefit it. Enjoy your bottles as it is an excellent effort. Cheers!
